Microsoft’s latest version of Flight Simulator has taken the gaming community by storm, but its system requirements are a far cry from those of traditional games. The game demands a significant amount of RAM to run smoothly, with even 32 GB being insufficient in many cases. In our testing, we found that having 96 GB of RAM made a noticeable difference, albeit not as drastic as expected.
We tested the game on a high-end Ryzen 9 9900X CPU paired with an RTX 4070 Ti GPU, and used three Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5 kits to test different amounts of system memory. Our results showed that having more than 64 GB of RAM significantly reduced loading times and improved in-game performance.
However, it’s not just about the raw amount of RAM; fast RAM is also essential for optimal performance. When we tested with slower RAM, we saw a significant decrease in frame rates and performance.
Microsoft’s Flight Simulator 2024 still has some issues to iron out, particularly with loading times. Even with 96 GB of RAM, it can take up to 10 minutes to load the game from scratch. Additionally, the game’s reliance on system memory can make it difficult for less powerful gaming PCs to run smoothly.
Despite these challenges, our testing showed that the game runs well even on high-end hardware like our Ryzen 9 9900X and RTX 4070 Ti. The game also supports DLSS 3 frame generation, which further improves performance.
If you’re considering purchasing Microsoft’s Flight Simulator 2024, we recommend adding as much RAM to your gaming PC as possible. While 32 GB kits are affordable, 64 GB kits are starting to get pricey. With the latest version of the game, it’s essential to have enough RAM to avoid loading issues and optimize performance.
