UFC lightweight Paddy Pimblett has stated that his next opponent will likely be Justin Gaethje, but he’s also open to facing Ilia Topuria later this year. The 30-year-old Pimblett secured a career-best win over Michael Chandler in April, earning a performance of the night bonus and rising to No. 6 in ESPN’s lightweight rankings.
The recent announcement of the Topuria vs Charles Oliveira fight for the lightweight belt at UFC 317 on June 28 has shifted the landscape for Pimblett. With Max Holloway and Dustin Poirier scheduled to fight next, it appears Gaethje is likely to face his next opponent soon.
Pimblett expressed confidence in finishing Gaethje, stating, “He’s another one who is coming to the back end of his career… I really think that I finish him.” The Englishman also acknowledged the potential opportunity for a title shot if Pimblett can secure wins over both Gaethje and Chandler.
Pimblett plans to focus on himself in October, watching the Topuria-Oliveira fight with interest. He believes that if Topuria emerges victorious, he may be mentioned as his next opponent.
