Samsung has defended its decision to release the Galaxy S25 Edge, an ultra-slim phone with a 5.8mm thickness, by saying Apple’s iPhone 17 Air didn’t influence its design. According to Kadesh Beckford, Samsung smartphone product specialist, the company redesigned every component to fit the slimmer chassis.
To achieve this, Samsung broke down components like the 200MP camera and reduced it to fit into a smaller space. However, the phone will likely share some similarities with Apple’s iPhone 17 Air, which is rumored to have a similar design and features.
The Galaxy S25 Edge is designed for customers who want Galaxy S25 Ultra features without the bulk of an “ultra” phone. The device comes with a 200MP rear camera, Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, and titanium frame, among other features.
However, battery life remains a concern. The 3900mAh battery in the Edge is smaller than the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s power pack, but Samsung is optimistic about chip efficiencies and software optimization improving battery life. The company will have to determine if the Galaxy S25 Edge can overcome this challenge and set a new path for slim handsets.
