Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy will attend the inaugural Mass of newly elected Pope Leo on Sunday, along with other world leaders. The event marks the formal installation of Pope Leo as leader of the world’s 1.4 billion Roman Catholics.
Zelenskiy will be accompanied by US Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who will discuss efforts to end Russia’s war in Ukraine with Cardinal Matteo Zuppi. US diplomat Rubio stated that the Vatican could be a venue for facilitating dialogue between Russia and Ukraine.
Other leaders attending include Israeli, Peruvian, Nigerian, Italian, Canadian, Australian, German, and European Commission representatives. Many European royals will also be present, while Russia will be represented by Culture Minister Olga Lyubimova.
