Nintendo has revealed why Mario Kart World was selected to be a launch game for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console. According to Nate Bihldorff, senior vice president of product development at Nintendo of America, the game is “broadly accessible” to all skill levels, making it an ideal fit for the new system.
Bihldorff praises Mario Kart World’s high skill ceiling, saying that players can quickly improve and compete with others online. However, he also notes that the game offers various accessibility features, such as auto-acceleration, smart steering, and adjustable difficulty settings, which cater to a wide range of players.
These features allow even young players to participate in competitive racing, and Bihldorff believes they will appeal to non-Nintendo gamers who may be drawn to the series. The fact that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has been successful across various skill levels is also a key factor in Nintendo’s decision.
Mario Kart World will be released on June 5, 2025, both physically and digitally for the Nintendo Switch 2 console worldwide.
