Iranian Nationals Charged with UK National Security Offenses

Three Iranian nationals, aged between 39 and 55, have appeared in court in the UK charged with national security offenses following a counter-terror investigation. The men were arrested on May 3 and charged by the Crown Prosecution Service with engaging in conduct likely to assist Iran’s foreign intelligence service.

They are accused of surveillance and reconnaissance, as well as one man being charged with intent to commit serious violence against someone in the UK. Commander Dominic Murphy from the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command described the charges as “extremely serious” and linked them to a complex investigation.

A fourth suspect, aged 31, was arrested on May 9 but released without charge. The men will face the UK’s National Security Act in court.
