Ferrari is facing “P-nowhere” after Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton qualified 11th and 12th for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. The Italian team is disappointed with their performance at home, where they are expected to excel.
Leclerc, who was only a second off pole, expressed his disappointment and frustration with the team’s performance. “We’re sorry for this kind of performance at home,” he said. “We’re just not good enough at the moment.” Hamilton also felt devastated by the car’s performance, despite it feeling generally good during the qualifying session.
Ferrari has struggled to find time when fitting new tires for their final runs in qualifying, a problem that occurred in Miami two weeks ago. The team is fourth in the constructors’ standings, 152 points behind leaders McLaren.
Hamilton acknowledged that time was running out on Ferrari’s season but saw his first season with the team as a “foundation-building year.” He believes that the team can find performance and make improvements to build a faster car. Hamilton has all the faith and belief that Ferrari can overcome their current struggles and achieve success in the long term.
The Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix is on May 18, and coverage will be available on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and the BBC Sport website and app.
