Austin Butler and Pedro Pascal attempted to rescue actress Emma Stone from a persistent bee on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. The incident occurred during a photo shoot for their new horror western film, Eddington, which premiered at the festival.
Videos showed Pascal trying to shoo away the bee first, then nodding to Stone as if confirming it was indeed a bee. Butler joined in, blowing air back towards Stone when the bee approached her again. However, his gesture inadvertently sent the bee buzzing towards her once more.
The internet quickly turned this incident into memes and edited videos, with one Twitter user joking that the resulting memes would be “iconic” before they were even created. Eddington is set in May 2020 and follows a standoff between a small-town sheriff and mayor in New Mexico. The film will be released in theaters on July 18 by A24.
