South Africa’s Premier Condemns Brutal Killings in uMlazi, Promises Action

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli has strongly condemned the killing of eight individuals in a uMlazi, U Section, describing it as “barbaric and inhumane”. He visited the scene alongside Deputy Provincial Commissioner of Police Major General Phumelele Makoba and called for the immediate arrest of those responsible. The Premier pledged support to law enforcement and assured community safety structures would work closely with police to ensure swift justice.

Ntuli also engaged with the affected community, extended condolences to bereaved families, and instructed the Department of Social Development to provide necessary support services, including psychosocial support and counselling. To address broader concerns, he committed to improving living conditions in the area, prioritising shelter, infrastructure, and access to basic services.

The Premier announced plans to install Apollo lights and surveillance cameras to enhance safety and deter criminal activity. He stated that “no society can function under the threat of such brutal violence” and reaffirmed his commitment to building a safer KwaZulu-Natal where all citizens can live in dignity and peace.
