SpaceX will launch a SiriusXM geostationary communications satellite, SXM-9, into orbit on Thursday from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. The Falcon 9 rocket is set to lift off between 11:10 a.m. and 1:10 p.m. EST.
The satellite was built by Maxar Technologies, which has previously worked with SiriusXM on several projects. This launch will boost the audio entertainment giant’s reach of over 150 million SiriusXM-equipped vehicles.
The SXM-9 satellite is part of an agreement between Maxar and SiriusXM that also includes future satellites such as SXM-10, -11, and -12. The agreement highlights Maxar’s ability to perform at scale and provide more capability for commercial geostationary customers.
Thursday’s launch comes one day after another SpaceX Starlink mission, which is scheduled for Wednesday.
