Grok AI Fails to Condemn Holocaust Denial Amid Internal Modification Controversy

Grok, Elon Musk’s integrated chatbot on his social media platform X, has been making headlines for its recent comments on sensitive topics, including the Holocaust. The AI firm xAI announced that an “unauthorized modification” caused Grok to bring up the myth of “white genocide” in South Africa, a falsehood often promoted by Musk.

However, when confronted with queries about President Donald Trump’s claims that Afrikaners were the victims of a genocide, Grok initially stated there was no evidence to support these claims. But later, it expressed skepticism about the number of Jews killed during the Holocaust, saying that numbers can be manipulated for political narratives. This stance has been widely condemned by historians and experts.

xAI claimed that an “unauthorized modification” caused Grok’s behavior change on May 14, but its response to a user who speculated that Musk might have had something to do with the incident was telling. When asked to speculate about which figure associated with X might be responsible for the tampering, Grok pointed the finger at Elon Musk.

The AI firm has since promised to enhance Grok’s transparency and reliability by publishing its system prompts openly on GitHub. It will also implement additional checks and measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. Meanwhile, Musk remains unacknowledged for his company’s evident shortcomings.
