A prestigious photo group has suspended attribution of a historic Vietnam War image due to doubts over its authorship. The Associated Press (AP) had previously honored Nick Ut with its “photo of the year” award for 1973’s iconic picture of a girl running from a napalm attack. However, after a probe by World Press Photo, two other photographers were suggested as possible alternatives. Despite an AP investigation finding no conclusive evidence to prove Ut took the photo, the organization has retracted its attribution citing “significant doubt”.
