Austria’s JJ took home the top prize in this year’s Eurovision song contest for the third time. The country’s entry, “Wasted Love,” a pop-opera song, received 12 points from the Irish jury and 10 points from the international jury.
Israel’s Yuval Raphael came second with her song “New Day Will Rise.” She received the maximum 12 points in multiple countries’ televoters, including Ireland, totaling 203 points.
Ireland failed to break into the top ten and finished in 13th place with a total of 28 points. The Irish entry, “Laika Party,” about a Russian space dog having a party in the sky did not resonate with viewers.
Israel qualified for the final ahead of Latvia, Finland, Greece, and Austria. The competition had just ten songs that advanced to the next stage. Australia’s entry, “Milkshake Man” by Go-Jo failed to qualify, with detailed voting results showing it ranked 11 out of 16.
The Irish jury gave Israel seven points in the grand final, while Ireland received a total of one point from five countries.
Israel had previously faced protests and calls for exclusion from the competition, but security officials blocked attempts to disrupt the singer’s performance during the final.
