Kroger has closed its online marketplace, Kroger Ship, which allowed customers to buy products from third-party companies alongside groceries. The company stopped selling these non-grocery items “as of March 2025” and redirected customers to its own pickup and delivery options. The decision was not publicly explained.
The closure comes as shopping habits have shifted since the COVID-19 pandemic. Online grocery sales through ship-to-home services decreased from 40% before the pandemic to around 19% now, according to Grocery Dive. Kroger launched its marketplace in 2018 and expanded it in 2020 with third-party products added in 2022. Eligible returns will be honored for customers who made purchases on Kroger Ship.
