Smartphone accessory brand Anker has issued a recall for three wireless speakers due to a fire risk. The affected devices include the Soundcore Bluetooth Speaker in black (model A3102016) and two PowerConf S3 Bluetooth Speakers (models A3302011 and A3302031).
These speakers have faulty lithium-ion batteries that can overheat, posing a significant fire hazard. According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), there have been 33 reported incidents involving smoke, small fires, and minor burns. The devices were sold on Amazon from March to October 2023 at prices ranging from $28 to $130.
The CPSC is urging consumers to stop using the recalled speakers immediately and take the following steps:
– Ensure the device is powered off
– Disconnect it from a wall charger or external power source
– Contact Anker’s support page with the product recall information (available on the SN Code on the bottom of the Bluetooth speaker)
– Fill out the form to obtain a free replacement speaker
Please note that users who have Soundcore units not affected by this recall are still advised to contact Anker to confirm their device is safe. Do not dispose of the recalled devices in trash or electronic recycling boxes, as they pose a fire hazard. Instead, take them to a municipal recycling center for damaged and recalled lithium batteries.
This marks the third recall issued by Anker in 2024 due to faulty battery issues, following recalls for the Power Bank, MagGo Battery, A3302 speakerphone, and other products. The company has yet to issue an official statement on this matter, but will be updated if more information becomes available.
