A California woman has filed a class action lawsuit against S.C. Johnson, the maker of Ziploc, alleging that some products contain undisclosed microplastics that mislead and harm consumers. Linda Cheslow, a resident of Santa Rosa, California, claims that certain Ziploc bags and containers labeled as “microwave safe” and “freezer” release microplastics when used in these appliances.
Cheslow’s complaint alleges that S.C. Johnson made false representations about the safety of its products, creating an unfair, unlawful, deceptive, and misleading impression to consumers. The lawsuit seeks compensation for consumers who have purchased affected products within a certain timeframe.
Microplastics are small plastic particles released from broken-down plastics during microwave heating or refrigeration in containers. Research suggests that ingesting microplastics can cause health issues, including harm to the digestive tract, immune system, and reproductive system.
The Ziploc class action lawsuit includes products such as freezer bags, slider bags, containers, and other items labeled as “microwave safe” or “freezer.” If successful, the lawsuit could lead to a settlement where affected consumers receive an equal share of the funds.
