Andor Series Finale Ends with Hope and Emotional Payoff

Andor series creator Tony Gilroy has broken down the inspiration behind the final image of the show, which revealed Cassian’s parentage with Bix. The ending montage showed a range of characters from the series, including Diego Luna’s Cassian and Adria Arjona’s Bix carrying a baby.

Gilroy confirmed that Bix was pregnant when she left Cassian, explaining her actions in a note that “I can’t be the reason you leave here.” The creator aimed to make the sacrifice Cassian makes even more painful by ending on the reveal of their child. He also wanted to convey hope at the end of the series, particularly after the show’s gritty and intense storyline.

Gilroy stated that he intentionally left out a traditional “new hope” message in favor of a more nuanced approach, ensuring it felt earned and authentic. The final shot also helps balance out slow-motion images from the montage, including Cassian nodding to the Force Healer.

The inspiration for Andor came from various sources, including Whoopi Goldberg’s character in the movie Ghost. Gilroy aimed to capture the idea of reluctant destiny and its biblical undertones. The show’s ending is a mix of emotional payoff and balance with a hopeful message, making it a satisfying conclusion to the series.
