SpaceX Scrubs Launch Due to Falcon 9 Auto Abort

SpaceX has scrubbed its planned launch of the Starlink 12-15 mission, which was set for May 19 at midnight. The company cited an auto abort of the Falcon 9 rocket just before liftoff and stated that the vehicle and payload are in good health. SpaceX plans to try again on Tuesday with a backup launch opportunity starting at 11:18 p.m. EDT.

The mission will carry 23 Starlink V2 Mini satellites, including 13 with Direct to Cell capabilities, into low Earth orbit. The launch was initially expected to feature Falcon 9 booster 1095, which made its way to the launch site on Saturday and has now flown once as a side booster in June 2024.

The auto abort occurred just minutes before liftoff, and SpaceX’s backup plan takes advantage of a favorable weather forecast for Tuesday. The company’s teams are resetting for a new attempt, with liftoff expected within hours if all goes well.
