Google Unveils Gemini AI Assistant for Chrome Browsers

Google has announced that its Gemini AI assistant will be integrated into the Chrome browser. The new feature aims to assist users while browsing by providing summaries of complex information and helping with tasks such as comparing products or converting measurements.

During a demonstration, it was shown how Gemini can summarize a webpage’s key features and answer questions about specific products. The chatbot window appears as a floating UI that can be moved and resized, allowing users to ask questions about the website they’re viewing.

Initially, Gemini will only work across multiple tabs in real-time, but later this year, it will enable users to select multiple tabs at once and ask a question about all of them. Additionally, the AI assistant will also include a navigation feature that allows users to navigate websites more efficiently.

Gemini is set to launch on Wednesday for Windows and macOS users aged 18 or older who use English as their primary language. Users with Google’s AI Pro and Ultra subscriptions or those using Chrome’s beta, canary, and dev channels will be among the first to access the feature in early access.

Google plans to expand Gemini to mobile devices, but its focus on desktop applications is currently a priority.
