Harvey Weinstein’s Manhattan sex crimes retrial took a dramatic turn on Tuesday when the accused serial perv appeared to suffer a medical episode after a defiant gesture by one of his accusers.
Jessica Mann, 38, who accused Weinstein of raping her in a Beverly Hills hotel, pointed a finger at him and demanded that he look at her during her testimony. The gesture sparked a flurry of activity as court officers rushed to attend to Weinstein.
Weinstein’s high-powered defense attorney Arthur Aidala argued for a mistrial, citing the alleged behavior as “inappropriate” by Mann. However, prosecutors countered that it did not warrant a mistrial.
The court ultimately denied Aidala’s bid, and Mann continued her testimony, recounting how she had faked orgasms to end uncomfortable sexual encounters with Weinstein. She also detailed an alleged rape in a Midtown hotel, where she found an erection-inducing drug needle with a puzzling label.
Weinstein is only charged in connection with the Midtown alleged rape and has pleaded not guilty to charges in his sex crimes retrial. The trial comes after Weinstein was previously convicted of one count of rape and two counts of sexual assault at a Los Angeles trial in 2022, which he has appealed.
