Buccaneers co-owner Bryan Glazer is pushing to have defensive legend Simeon Rice inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, citing his impressive sack totals and unparalleled longevity. Rice, who is set to be inducted into the Buccaneers’ Ring of Honor, believes that being a member of the Hall of Fame would have meant the world to him, especially if it happened during his lifetime.
Glazer, who considers Rice “the missing piece” to make the Buccaneers’ defense all-time great, points out that Rice holds an NFL record for 100 sacks in eight consecutive seasons. Despite this achievement, Rice remains the only retired player with over 100 sacks without a Gold Jacket, a symbol of Hall of Fame membership.
Rice’s career spanned five seasons with the Cardinals and six seasons with the Buccaneers, where he cemented his legacy as one of the greatest pass rushers in NFL history. With Glazer’s lobbying efforts, it appears that Rice’s overdue recognition is finally on the horizon.
