The highly-anticipated second season of The Last of Us has once again delivered a memorable scene that fans will remember for years to come. In the latest episode, Joel and Ellie visit an abandoned museum, marking a poignant moment in the storyline. However, viewers familiar with the game will note that this segment was originally much more extensive.
The game’s version features Ellie’s 16th birthday celebration at the museum, where she explores two separate sections: one dedicated to space travel and another featuring an impressive dinosaur exhibit. In contrast, the show only focuses on a single floor, showcasing Joel and Ellie playing with a solar system diorama and pretending to be astronauts.
Bizarrely, it appears that HBO shot additional scenes in the recreated dinosaur section but ultimately omitted them from the final edit. The behind-the-scenes footage reveals Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey filming in the set, which was remarkably detailed, complete with overgrowth and grime.
Although fans are sad to see the abandoned museum set go, the deleted scenes may be included in future special features when the season two box set is released. This added content could provide fans with a deeper understanding of Ellie’s character, particularly her fascination with space and dinosaurs. With only one episode left this season, it remains to be seen how the show will conclude its adaptation of The Last of Us Part II’s story across multiple seasons.
