Jason Sudeikis Tributes Uncle George Wendt on His Passing

Actor Jason Sudeikis shared fond memories of his uncle, late actor George Wendt, just years before his death in May 2024. Wendt, best known for starring in the NBC hit comedy “Cheers,” passed away peacefully at age 76.

In a joint interview with The A.V. Club’s Roast of George Wendt event in 2017, Sudeikis recalled a childhood memory of riding with his uncle through Los Angeles’ Laurel Canyon. Wendt had recently acquired a new BMW and took Sudeikis and his father for a spin, despite the seats being brand new and lacking mandatory seatbelts.

The experience left Sudeikis’ father holding on for dear life, while he slid around in the backseat. Sudeikis said he cherished this memory of his adventurous uncle.

In other recent interviews, Wendt spoke highly of Sudeikis, describing him as a “great kid” and praising his success on shows like “Saturday Night Live.” The late actor also encouraged Sudeikis to take risks in his acting career, telling him to “get on one of the best sitcoms of all time and then ride it out.”

Wendt’s family confirmed his passing in a statement, describing him as a “beloved actor and comedian” who will be deeply missed.
