SpaceX successfully launched its new Falcon 9 booster on Tuesday, overcoming an abort that halted its first attempt 24 hours earlier. The rocket lifted off from pad 40 at Cape Canaveral carrying 23 Starlink satellites. This was the fourth time a new booster has been activated by SpaceX this year, with the company currently operating 18 other boosters.
After the launch scrub, SpaceX acknowledged an “auto abort” occurred but refused to disclose the reason. However, they confirmed that both the vehicle and payload were in good health and teams are resetting for a launch attempt no earlier than May 20.
The rocket landed safely on the SpaceX droneship “Just Read the Instructions” about eight minutes after liftoff, marking its 121st successful landing and the 449th booster landing. Inside the payload fairing was a batch of 23 Starlink satellites, including 13 equipped for direct-to-cellphone communications. Deployment occurred about an hour and five minutes into flight, following a short burn to circularize the initial parking orbit.
