The Studio, a new Apple TV+ series created by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, has culminated in its season finale with an impressive ensemble cast. The show’s creators aimed to capture the essence of Hollywood’s elite, and it appears they’ve succeeded in bringing together A-list talent.
Throughout the first season, Bryan Cranston, Zoë Kravitz, Dave Franco, Olivia Wilde, Adam Scott, Charlize Theron, Ron Howard, Zac Efron, Steve Buscemi, Quinta Brunson, Greta Lee, Anthony Mackie, and Ted Sarandos have made memorable appearances. However, the show’s co-creators reveal that one standout casting decision was securing Martin Scorsese.
According to casting director Melissa Kostenbauder, Rogen and Goldberg had always wanted to work with Scorsese, a true Hollywood legend. The duo’s enthusiasm for Marty was infectious, attracting even more high-profile actors to join the project. Apple TV+ played a significant role in making this happen, offering a first-look deal with Scorsese’s Sikelia Productions banner.
Kostenbauder describes an “unusual casting process” where initial meetings between Rogen and Goldberg took place without scripts being shared upfront. Instead, the focus was on building relationships with potential talent to ensure they felt comfortable with the project’s concept. After these initial meetings, scripts were sent, allowing everyone to be “on the same page.”
The show’s success can be attributed to its ability to attract big-name actors and directors. The continuous tracking shots, or “oners,” have become a hallmark of The Studio, and casting director Kostenbauder stresses that finding the right fit was crucial.
Having an impressive guest cast is essential for making the show believable, according to Kostenbauder. With its talented ensemble, The Studio has earned its renewal for a second season, and fans can now stream all episodes on Apple TV+.
