Comedy legend George Wendt, best known for his role as Norm Peterson on ‘Cheers,’ reunited with his co-stars Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson before his death at 76. In August last year, Wendt appeared on the podcast “Where Everybody Knows Your Name” alongside Danson and Harrelson.
Wendt recalled how he landed the iconic role of Norm in a conversation about his casting process. He initially auditioned for just one word in the pilot episode but eventually secured the part after another audition. The show aired from 1982 to 1993, alongside other beloved cast members like Danson, Harrelson, Shelley Long, and Rhea Perlman.
Wendt’s performance earned him six Emmy nominations as a Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. In his final public appearance before passing away, Wendt also attended the 75th annual Primetime Emmy Awards for an “Cheers” reunion. The family of George Wendt confirmed that he died peacefully in his sleep, describing him as a devoted family man and kind friend to those who knew him.
