Google Tunes Down Pixel’s At a Glance Widget

Google has introduced its new Material 3 Expressive design language in the latest Android 16 beta, bringing a welcome change to Pixel phones’ home screens. The At a Glance widget, which was previously taking up more space, now occupies less room, allowing for an additional row of apps.

The updated design not only shrinks the widget but also compresses the overall screen layout, removing dead space between rows and creating room for extra apps below it. However, this change does not affect users’ ability to turn off the At a Glance widget, which remains mandatory on Pixel phones alongside the Google search bar at the bottom.

The new Material 3 Expressive aesthetic is a colorful and bouncy design that was unveiled last week and will be rolled out with the Android 16 update later this year.
