Google Unveils Wear OS 6 Developer Preview with Facer App Revival

Google has released the developer preview of Wear OS 6, bringing along the long-awaited revival of the popular watchface app, Facer. The new WFF system on Wear OS 5 has limited third-party watchfaces to broken features, but Facer is making a comeback in an effort to improve battery life.

With Wear OS 6, users will be able to access Facer Premium, featuring a wide range of new watchfaces that can be synced directly to their smartwatch. The app will provide instant syncing from the watch when pushing a new face to the wearable, and users can purchase and subscribe to faces right within the app.

The return of Facer brings thousands of watchfaces into compliance with WFF, offering more creative options for Wear OS devices. However, compatibility issues remain, particularly with third-party items that may not run as smoothly. Google’s efforts aim to improve battery life, a crucial consideration for smartwatches with limited battery capacity.

Material 3 Expressive will finally bring dynamic themes to Wear OS later this year, with the Pixel Watch expected to receive it first.
