Biden’s Prostate Cancer Diagnosis Raises Importance of Screenings

Former President Joe Biden’s prostate cancer diagnosis is a reminder to prioritize early detection and screenings for various cancers.

For women, it starts in their 20s with breast health checks and cervical cancer screenings every five years after age 25. HPV vaccination is also recommended at this age.

In the 40s, men and women begin colorectal cancer screening at age 45, while women get mammograms annually starting at that age. Lung cancer screening for high-risk adults ages 50-80 with a smoking history may begin in the 50s.

Prostate cancer screenings are especially important for Black men and those with a family history, continuing through the 60s and 70s. Early detection is key to saving lives, as Dr. Phillip Phillip emphasizes that any test is better than no test.
