Oura Ring owners have long complained about its activity tracking issues, but the company has announced that it’s addressing these concerns for free. A major upgrade to the smart ring’s step-tracking feature is now available, promising improved accuracy and new features.
The updated algorithm should reduce average daily step count errors by 61%, cutting the number of steps logged with an error of up to 20%. The new system also considers movement intensity, allowing users to accurately track calories burned during exercise. This change slashes median active calorie error by 53%.
Automatic Activity Detection has also been improved, enabling the ring to automatically track workouts and other activities without requiring manual input. Even runners who forget to log their exercises will benefit from this upgrade, as the ring will now display running and walking details with GPS data.
Additionally, users can expect a new trend view in the Active Time feature, displaying active minutes for daily, weekly, and monthly periods. Integrations with Apple HealthKit and Android have also been added, allowing users to access heart rate data recorded by these platforms within the Oura app.
Furthermore, partner apps like CorePower Yoga, The Sculpt Society, Technogym, and Open will now display more user data, including sleep, activity, recovery, and stress levels. This should enable users to make informed decisions about their workout routines and daily regimens.
