SGA Wins MVP, Eligible for $380M Thunder Contract

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has won the 2024-25 NBA Most Valuable Player award, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. As a result, he is now eligible for a five-year, $380 million contract extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2026.

Gilgeous-Alexander’s impressive season earned him the MVP award, surpassing Nikola Jokić, who also made a strong case for the honor. Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 32.7 points, 6.4 assists, and 5.0 rebounds per game, leading his team to a second-round playoff win over the Denver Nuggets.

The win over the Nuggets marked a significant moment in SGA’s career, as he also led his team to a 1-0 lead in the Western Conference Finals against the Minnesota Timberwolves. A championship and MVP award would be a historic achievement for Gilgeous-Alexander, who is now poised to receive one of the most lucrative contract extensions in NBA history.

Gilgeous-Alexander’s eligibility for the supermax contract also means he will have the opportunity to sign a four-year, $293 million deal with the Thunder during the upcoming offseason. However, the five-year, $380 million extension would be a life-changing payday if he waits until 2026.
