UFC heavyweight title contender Tom Aspinall has admitted that waiting for a fight against Jon Jones has become more mentally challenging than his toughest time in career. The 37-year-old, who was sidelined for over a year after suffering a brutal knee injury, is growing increasingly frustrated with the continuous delays.
Aspinall’s last fight was an interim title defense against Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304 in July. Despite Jones’ recent hints of retirement, he has yet to announce a potential title unification bout. Aspinall says fans should “cry more” when told to stop delaying his career, implying that Jones is mentally exhausting him.
Aspinall recalled his previous injury, which left him out of action for over a year. He said it was a tough time, but he had goals to work towards during his recovery. Now, with almost a year of inactivity, Aspinall finds it harder to stay motivated. “It’s kind of difficult mentally” he admitted.
However, Aspinall is staying busy by training and helping his teammates prepare for their upcoming fights, including GLORY kickboxing world champion Rico Verhoeven’s return at GLORY 100.
