A French firm, Gouach, is changing the way e-bike batteries are designed and maintained with its innovative Infinite Battery system. Unlike traditional e-bike batteries that require welding to replace cells, the Infinite Battery features a durable, fireproof casing that can be easily opened and replaced with 18650 batteries using just a screwdriver.
The system keeps users informed about cell performance and heat levels through a Bluetooth-connected app, providing real-time updates on the battery’s status. What sets the Infinite Battery apart is its compatibility with “90% of existing e-bike brands” or the ability to upgrade an existing model.
Developing this system required extensive trial and error over four years, led by Alexandre Vallette, CEO of Gouach. To overcome challenges, the company created custom-printed circuit boards (PCBs) with flexible contacts that can withstand bike vibrations. This design allows for thermal monitoring across multiple points on the package.
Initially tested with a European bike-share company, the Infinite Battery’s casing was subjected to various environmental conditions, including water ingress. The results demonstrated the system’s durability and potential to improve e-bike battery maintenance.
