Xiaomi Chips Beats Apple in Performance, But Is It a Game-Changer?

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has released its new Xring O1 chip, claiming it surpasses Apple’s A18 Pro on several technical metrics, including game performance with reduced heat. The new chip will be used in the 15S Pro phone, priced lower than the Apple iPhone 16 Pro in China.

Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun said the company has invested heavily in its chip development, spending over $1.9 billion to create the Xring O1. The new chip is part of a larger strategy to compete with Apple, which has restricted China’s access to high-end equipment for developing advanced semiconductors.

The 15S Pro starts at 5,499 yuan ($764), eligible for state-subsidized discounts, and will be released alongside the YU7 electric SUV. The company plans to invest 200 billion yuan in research and development over five years and expects 30% revenue growth this year.

Xiaomi’s aggressive pricing strategy may pay off as it aims to capture a larger share of the global smartphone market. However, Apple remains the dominant player, and Xiaomi’s claims are yet to be independently verified.
