The New Jersey Health Department has issued an alert warning that anyone who attended the Shakira concert on Thursday night at MetLife Stadium may have been exposed to measles. A non-New Jersey resident infected with the disease was present at the May 15 event. The department is urging individuals, particularly parents, healthcare providers, and caregivers, to be aware of measles symptoms and ensure they are up-to-date on their vaccinations.
Measles symptoms include a high fever, cough, runny nose, watery red eyes, and a rash that appears between three and five days after symptoms begin. The department recommends that anyone who suspects exposure or is ill call their healthcare provider before visiting any medical office or emergency department. If infected, a potentially exposed person may develop symptoms as late as June 6.
