Google has introduced a new tool called SynthID Detector that helps identify content created with its artificial intelligence (AI) tools. The verification portal quickly scans media files for AI-generated watermarks and highlights specific areas where they are most likely to be present.
In a blog post, Google DeepMind’s Pushmeet Kohli explains that SynthID Detector can detect AI-generated images, text, audio, and videos, including content created by Gemini, Imagen, Lyria, and Veo models. The tool works by uploading media files and scanning them for watermarks. If found, it highlights specific segments or areas where the watermark is most likely present.
Google plans to roll out the SynthID Detector to early testers first and will gradually make it available to users who sign up to a waitlist. The company aims to implement content transparency more broadly using lessons learned from initial testing.
