A French court has convicted four men of breaking into reality TV star Kim Kardashian’s Parisian home in 2016, stealing jewellery worth millions of euros. The armed heist, dubbed the “biggest robbery of an individual” in France in 20 years, targeted Kardashian during Fashion Week.
Kim Kardashian was held hostage with a gun, tied up, and left in her bathroom while the thieves escaped with estimated €10m worth of jewels, including a £3m diamond engagement ring. The leader of the gang, Aomar Aït Khedache, 68, received three years’ prison plus five suspended years for his role in planning and selling the stolen goods.
The court heard that Kardashian had posted her movements on social media, which may have facilitated the thieves’ targeting. However, she expressed gratitude towards French authorities for pursuing justice and forgiveness to Aït Khedache, stating that the experience has forever changed her life’s sense of safety at home.
Kardashian had initially thought it was a terrorist attack but managed to loosen her hand ties against the edge of her bathroom sink before being released. She now has up to six security guards on site to provide additional protection.
