Williamson County Reports First Measles Case of 2025

A school-aged child from Leander, Texas, has tested positive for measles, according to Williamson County’s public health department. The child, who attends Bar W Elementary School in Liberty Hill ISD, was confirmed to have the virus last week.

The agency is working with school officials and the Texas Department of State Health Services to notify people who may have been exposed. However, it has not disclosed information about the child’s travel history or vaccination status due to a family request.

People who may have been exposed are urged to monitor for symptoms of measles, which include fever, cough, runny nose, and skin rash. If symptoms appear, they should contact their healthcare provider before entering a hospital.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warn that measles is one of the most contagious diseases, with serious complications possible. The measles-mumps-rubella vaccine provides 97% effective protection against the virus. With two doses recommended in childhood, this vaccine has been shown to prevent infection effectively.

This is not the first measles case reported in Williamson County this year, with Hays and Travis counties also announcing their first cases of the year.
