Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, kicked off the holiday season with a poignant carol service at Westminster Abbey in London, marking a meaningful milestone in her cancer recovery journey.
The 42-year-old royal, who recently completed chemotherapy treatment following a cancer diagnosis and major abdominal surgery, hosted the fourth annual Together at Christmas service. Dressed in a festive red coat by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, Kate greeted volunteers solo before joining her family, including husband Prince William, their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Guests from across the U.K. attended the service, which featured traditional Christmas carols, heartfelt readings, ballet, and performances by young musicians and stars like Olivia Dean and Gregory Porter. The evening also honored King Charles’s donation of trees from Windsor Great Park to decorate the church, with plans for their reuse in local communities.
Kate delivered a heartfelt letter to each of the 1,600 guests, discussing the transformative power of love and the importance of slowing down during the holiday season to reflect on deeper connections. The Princess of Wales also highlighted the significance of empathy, kindness, and forgiveness in the Christmas spirit.
As part of her gradual return to royal duties, this marks Kate’s second public appearance of the week. The family will celebrate Christmas with King Charles at Sandringham, their Norfolk estate, after a significant year marked by health challenges for both Kate and Prince Charles, 76.
