First Measles Case Confirmed in Williamson County, Texas

A child in Leander, Texas, has become the first reported measles case in Williamson County for 2025, according to health officials. The child attends Bar W Elementary School and was contagious from May 15 until possibly May 24.

The school-aged child is currently recovering at home under isolation, following guidance from the Williamson County and Cities Health District (WCCHD). Families of Bar W students are advised to monitor for symptoms through June 14 and contact their healthcare provider if symptoms develop.

Measles cases have been reported in other areas, including Hays County, where a Kyle resident tested positive for the virus. Four new cases were reported in Texas on Tuesday, bringing the total number of identified cases since January’s outbreak to 722.

Dr. Amanda Norwood, Medical Director and Health Authority for WCCHD, emphasized the importance of timely communication and protecting public health. She urged residents to stay alert and take extra precautions, recognizing early signs of measles and acting quickly to protect their families and communities.

WCCHD offers low-cost MMR vaccinations for eligible individuals through programs such as TVFC and ASN. Those who believe they have been exposed or show symptoms should call their healthcare provider before visiting a clinic or hospital.
