US Men’s Hockey Team Thrashes Sweden in Semifinals

The US Men’s National Team defeated Sweden 6-2 in the semifinals of the 2025 IIHF Men’s World Championship, advancing to their first gold-medal game since 1934. Shane Pinto scored a three-point performance and added an empty-net goal for the US.

Brady Skjei opened the scoring with a wrist shot from an offensive-zone faceoff win by Pinto. Cutter Gauthier doubled the US lead before Gauthier capitalized on another Swedish turnover, forcing in a goal past Swedish goalie Jacob Markström.

The US extended its lead to 3-0 and added two more goals before Sweden scored two in the third period. Jackson LaCombe responded with a goal over Swedish goalie Samuel Ersson’s blocker, giving the US a 5-2 lead. Pinto sealed the victory with an empty-net goal.

US coach Ryan Warsofsky expressed pride in his team, saying “Every single guy contributed to the win.” The US will face Switzerland in the gold-medal game tomorrow at 8:20 p.m. local time.
