McDonald’s is closing all its CosMc’s locations, including the Bolingbrook original, starting next month. The decision comes after a brief experiment that began with the launch of the first CosMc’s location in December 2023.
CosMc’s was a beverage-focused concept with sci-fi themes and customizable drinks like the Churro Frappé. The drive-thru-only location drew long lines and was compared to Starbucks. McDonald’s tested new drink flavors and operational tweaks at the pilot locations without affecting its core restaurants.
The fast-food giant plans to apply what it learned from CosMc’s to regular McDonald’s locations. “We’ve learned so much, so quickly,” McDonald’s said in a statement. “We cannot wait to share more about our beverage developments and tests in the future.”
CosMc’s app will also be discontinued. The closure marks the end of an alien-themed experiment that began over 30 years ago.
