Stepdad Dies from Cancer After Delayed Diagnosis

A 68-year-old stepdad from the UK, Ronnie Haston, passed away from cancer just weeks after his diagnosis. Ronnie was admitted to hospital with concerning symptoms two weeks prior but was initially told he had constipation and was offered a blood test two weeks later. His condition deteriorated, and tests revealed plummeting kidney function and high calcium levels. Despite being a healthy individual with no underlying health conditions, Ronnie died from pneumonia after undergoing chemotherapy. Beth Hunt, his partner, blames the healthcare system for its slow response to her stepdad’s symptoms, advocating for better GP education on recognizing blood cancer symptoms. To honor Ronnie’s memory, Beth is running the Edinburgh Marathon in his name and raising funds for Myeloma UK charity.
