Honey Chrome Extension Loses Users Amid Scandal

Browser extension Honey has seen its user base plummet to 15 million from a peak of over 20 million following an exposé that revealed the platform was taking credit for affiliate sales and limiting coupon code availability. The scandal, highlighted by YouTube channel MegaLag, led to a loss of around 3 million users on Chrome but Honey rebounded partially.

As of March 2025, Honey had dropped further, with Google implementing restrictions on extensions following the debacle. While still advertising over 17 million members, these numbers appear inflated, considering an additional 2-3 million users across other browsers like Microsoft Edge and Safari. Google’s restrictions have led to Honey making changes to its affiliate code abuse.

This drop in user base is a significant blow for Honey, which has struggled with maintaining credibility since the scandal was exposed. The impact of the MegaLag video has also passed, with around 3 million views on that video since January, suggesting that the public’s attention has moved on to other issues.
