A new biography claims that Freddie Mercury had a secret daughter born in 1976 to the wife of his close friend. The woman, known as B, has shared her father’s personal journals with rock biographer Lesley-Ann Jones, revealing their close relationship until Mercury’s death in 1991.
B, who is now 48 and works as a medical professional in Europe, claims that Mercury visited her regularly and gave her his 17 volumes of detailed personal journals. The journals, which span from 1976 to 1991, offer insight into Mercury’s childhood, his relationship with his daughter, and his experiences as a rock star.
According to B, her existence was kept secret by Mercury’s inner circle, but she has chosen to reveal herself after 30 years of silence. In a letter shared in the biography, she explains that she wants to set the record straight about her relationship with her father.
“Freddie Mercury was and is my father,” she writes. “We had a very close and loving relationship from the moment I was born and throughout the final 15 years of his life. He adored me and was devoted to me.”
The journals, which were written by Mercury in 1976, chronicle his childhood in Zanzibar, where he was born to Parsi-Indian parents. They also detail how his family fled Zanzibar during the 1964 revolution before settling in Middlesex, north-west London.
B’s revelation has sparked interest among fans of Queen, who are eager to learn more about Mercury’s personal life. Rock biographer Lesley-Ann Jones praised B for her courage and honesty, saying “No one could have faked all this. Why would she have worked with me for three and a half years, never demanding anything?”
