Russia launched a massive drone-and-missile attack on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, and other regions, killing at least 12 people and injuring dozens. The attack, which involved 367 drones and missiles, is the largest single strike of the three-year-long war.
According to Ukrainian officials, the attack targeted over 30 cities and villages across Ukraine, including Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, Ternopil, Chernihiv, Sumy, Odesa, Poltava, Dnipro, Mykolaiv, and Kharkiv. The Russian military used a mix of Iranian-designed Shahed drones and other types of missiles.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack, calling it “deliberate strikes on ordinary cities” that destroyed residential buildings and damaged homes. He urged Western partners to increase sanctions on Russia, saying that without strong pressure, the brutality cannot be stopped.
The attack came on the third day of a planned prisoner swap between Russia and Ukraine, which is the only tangible outcome from peace talks in Istanbul earlier this month. Despite the exchange, fighting continues along the front line, with tens of thousands of soldiers killed and neither side relenting in its deep strikes.
At least four people were killed and 16 injured in Kyiv, while three children were killed in the Zhytomyr region. The attacks have caused widespread damage and destruction, with homes burned down and windows smashed.
