Prime Video’s new series “The Sticky” stars Emmy-winner Margo Martindale as Ruth Landry, a desperate maple syrup farmer fighting to save her farm after it’s threatened by corruption and red tape. The show is loosely based on a famous 2011-2012 heist that saw thieves steal over $18.7 million of pure Canadian maple syrup.
Martindale’s character joins forces with a struggling security guard, Remy Bouchard, and a low-level Boston mobster, Mike Byrne, to carry out the heist. The series was co-created by Brian Donovan and Ed Herro, who drew inspiration from heist movies, including “Fargo” and “Breaking Bad.” Martindale reveals she had never heard of the original heist before joining the project, but threw herself into the character, bringing a dark comedic tone to the show.
The series explores themes of desperation, corruption, and female empowerment. Martindale says playing Ruth Landry has been an enjoyable experience, allowing her to tap into her “psycho” side while showcasing her range as a complex and emotional character. With its unique blend of dark comedy and epic Quebec scenery, “The Sticky” debuts on Prime Video on December 6.
