Liberty Remain Unbeaten as Fever Fall Short

The New York Liberty remained unbeaten on Saturday after defeating the Indiana Fever 90-88 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The Liberty’s win was largely due to three officiating calls that went their way, including a non-call on DeWanna Bonner’s shot attempt and a foul call on Lexie Hull.

Indiana coach Stephanie White expressed frustration with the non-call on Bonner’s shot attempt, calling it “egregious” and “obvious.” She also felt that the foul called on Hull was unfair, as she claimed it hindered her team’s ability to play through contact.

Caitlin Clark acknowledged that she had not seen a replay of the final sequence where she lost the ball, but emphasized that the Fever could learn from their losses. The team is now 2-1 after two close defeats, and White noted that consistency in officiating is key.

The Liberty’s win marked their third straight game, with Jonquel Jones leading the way with 26 points and 12 rebounds. Coach Sandy Brondello praised his team’s ability to execute when it mattered most, saying they “knew how to get out of” tough situations.

Aliyah Boston led the Fever with 27 points and 13 rebounds, but her team was hindered by 16 turnovers and a free throw disparity that ultimately cost them the game. The Liberty outshot Indiana from the foul line, going 25-of-32 compared to the Fever’s 11-of-15.

The teams will face off again on June 14 in Indiana and twice in July in New York.
