Microsoft Unveils AI-Powered Features for Notepad, Paint, and Snipping Tool

Microsoft is introducing AI-powered features in its popular apps Notepad, Paint, and Snipping Tool. The updates aim to improve content creation and timesaving capabilities.

Notepad will get a new “Write” option that allows users to generate text from scratch. This feature requires a Microsoft 365 subscription and uses AI credits, which are limited to 60 per month for Personal or Family plans. Users can adjust the length, tone, and style of generated content using the “Rewrite” feature.

In contrast, Paint will receive an object select tool that uses AI to identify objects on the canvas, making it easier to apply edits. Additionally, Paint’s new “Welcome Experience” panel will provide users with a simplified introduction to its features.

Snipping Tool has also received new updates, including a “Perfect Screenshot” feature that allows users to capture specific areas of the screen without needing to highlight them exactly. A color picker ability is also being added, which enables designers to identify precise colors on-screen using HEX, RGB, or HSL codes.

While these features are promising, some users may be concerned about the potential impact on Notepad’s minimalism and responsiveness. As the app continues to add more features, it risks becoming less responsive and sluggish to load.
