North Carolina capped an unbeaten season with a 12-8 win over Northwestern, claiming the program’s fourth NCAA women’s lacrosse championship. The top-seeded Tar Heels (22-0) defeated the second-seeded Wildcats (19-3), both matching their lowest scoring games of the season.
Coach Jenny Levy praised her team, saying they “played their hearts out all year.” The game saw a record crowd of 14,423 as part of the Final Four weekend. North Carolina’s defense dominated, while Northwestern’s Madison Taylor was limited to four assists after setting the NCAA record for goals this season.
The Tar Heels’ victory marks the first time a mother-daughter duo has won the championship, with coach Jenny Levy and her daughter Kate scoring the game-winning goal. Ashley Humphrey broke her single-season record with 90 assists, while Chloe Humphrey pushed her freshman record to 90 goals.
